The people of Africa
A group of Maasai school children from the Building Hope Academy in Kenya moving us to tears with their smiles and songs. The people of Rwanda sweeping the gravel roads, scrubbing the rocks and washing the statues during their monthly day of service, exuding an inspiring sense of pride in their beautiful country. My rented moped stuck in the soft sand on a Zanzibar beach – a futile effort to push the immense beast on my own draws a young boy and an older teenage boy to the recuse, guiding me and the bike to more solid ground. Yes, I caught a glimpse of what many Canadians would see as severe poverty in Africa, but this is not what I’ll remember. I’ll remember the peace, happiness and kindness of so many of the people I had the opportunity to meet in Africa.
