Grizzly bears, and bears in general, have an unwarranted reputation of being vicious. In my limited experience with them, I believe that nothing could be further from the truth. Like any animal – wild, domestic, and human (especially human!) – they have the potential to be dangerous when surprised, scared or defending their territory/young. But they are naturally docile, gentle and playful creatures. Just look at their eyes! Photographers and observers need to be careful for the safety of themselves and the bears. Do not get too close – all of these images were taken from a safe distance or from my vehicle – be bear smart when hiking/camping, carry bear spray, make lots of noise, etc. I believe these beautiful animals deserve the highest level of respect and admiration.
