In case it’s not clear, the term ‘Lynx-aversary’ is what I use to describe the yearly anniversaries of the handful of lynx sightings I’ve been blessed with over the years.
Facebook often alerts me to these in the form of a digital memory, which inspires me to celebrate various Lynx-Aversaries by re-posting photos.
Today, July 30, 2023, is the Ultimate Lynx-Aversary, warranting a full, dedicated blog post.
It has been exactly 10 YEARS since this beautiful Canadian Lynx revealed himself to me:

This was one of the most profound wildlife encounters of my life, and it coincides with the beginning of this website: Kerri Martin Photography, and more importantly, this blog.
My post about this lynx sighting from July 30, 2013 was only the second ever post I published on August 11, 2013.
Since then I have published over 100 blog posts relaying some of my wild experiences with animals in the wild. I am so grateful to have this digital entity as a reminder.
In celebration of today, I have scanned through my 10 years of blog posts and below are my 10 ‘favorites,’ – just a bit of a highlight reel from the past decade of mother-nature infused encounters.
Before scrolling down, check out my newest photo gallery, featuring expansive photos from my own back-yard in Lethbridge, Alberta.

Close encounters of the bear kind = manifestation of my wildest dreams (Part 1 of 3)
I pulled into my parking spot in the back alley of a lodge I was staying at in a small BC town last fall (October 2020), anxious to relax and grab a beer and a bite after a long day of photographing the vibrant fall colours of the West Kootenays.
Snowshoe Hare Energy: An Expression of Divine Paradox
When I realized the racing white blur on the side of the road was a Snowshoe hare, my gut exploded with anticipation… A Snowshoe hare running along the side of the road in the middle of the day -...
Weasel Energy: A Martin’s Quest for a Marten
I have seen hundreds, perhaps thousands, of the world’s most deviously adorable mustelid (weasel) in my dreams, but I have only seen a handful of Pine Marten (aka American Marten) in ‘real life.’
Grouse energy: a demonstration of Gandalf-like resolve
The creature stood firm, every fibre of his being enraged, emanating an intense resolve on par with Gandalf’s infamous ‘YOU SHALL NOT PASS’ pronouncement in The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the...
Toad Energy: A return to home (Part 1 of 3)
In August 2006, I poked a toad. While light and brief, my touch was enough to cause one thick, front arm to nudge slightly upward. This toad was indeed alive - that was all I needed to know. Relief...
Tiger King documentary illuminates the Grace of Animals (contains spoilers)
The delicately weathered hand of a chimpanzee reaches beyond the metal wires of a cage. A human hand brushes the tips of the chimp’s fingers briefly, before pulling back, disappearing. The chimp’s...
Two Photographers out-smart a Northern River Otter (sort of)
'That's an ffing otter!!!!' I blurted, spotting a dark, oblong body in the middle of the snow-covered road. Within seconds, the figure slid from our view, disappearing through the trees towards the...
Beyond the photo: Moose in water inspires renewed faith in humanity
I was just so pissed-off, sitting there at the edge of paradise. A glacial lake cradled in the arms of an expansive mountain valley lay before me, inviting me into the ephemeral beauty and eternal...
A pine marten helps heal my love/hate relationship with snow
THHHWUMP! It took a moment for my brain to register the sound of my camera hitting the ground. It looked rather cozy, laying there, covered in about 6 inches of soft snow. ‘Sh*t,’ I softly uttered as I picked it up, graciously accepting the kleenex my friend Jamie produced.
No Animals – No problem. Nature always provides beautiful photo opportunities
Wind is nature's bully, boasting an ability to force its way 'all up in the grill' of every facet of the landscape. With no regard for the delicacy of life in the fall, it rips through the...
Thanks for celebrating this Lynx-Aversary with me!
Until next time, continue loving life an all things wild 🙂
Those clouds! That prairie sky is inimitable, magnificent. And it was great to scroll back through all the others. Congratulations on all of them.
Thanks so much Marnie – more cloud photos are coming soon 🙂
