Swans, Pelicans, Herons, Ibis, Cormorants, Sandhill Cranes – they all head south for the winter and are commonly seen in their various forms in tropical destinations. The Alberta prairies also support a few species of these exotic looking birds. White Pelicans and Double-Crested Cormorants are often seen along the Bow River in Calgary during the summer. Trumpeter and Tundra Swans are on the Glenmore Reservoir in the spring and fall. The Great Blue Heron is common in Alberta wetlands, and Black Crowned Night Heron and White-faced Ibis both nest at Frank Lake, a birding hot-spot located 6km East of High River.
